The amount was over 23 million tons and 15% more than in 2021.

At the same time, export shipments increased by 17% due to the growth in the transportation of products of Kazakh enterprises: iron ore (+17%), non-ferrous ore (+45%), ferrous metals (+6%), grain cargo in containers (+70%) and other cargo (+83%).

Kazakhstan Railways said that this increase was achieved due to the well-coordinated work of the railway workers of the two countries. NC KTZ JSC together with the railway administrations of China, work was carried out to ensure the unhindered acceptance and transfer of trains, and the efficient use of bordering capacity. And also at the Almaty Freight Department, Dostyk, and Altynkol stations.

The company announced that given the growing demand for cargo transportation in the direction of China, measures are being taken to accelerate the development of the railway infrastructure.

To ensure the uninterrupted transportation of domestic products and the development of the country's transit potential, in November last year, the construction of second tracks began on the Dostyk-Moiynty section. After the implementation of the project, the capacity of the section will increase 5 times (from 12 pairs of freight trains to 60 pairs per day). Currently, a feasibility study is being developed for the construction of the third railway border crossing Ayagoz - Bakhty.
