PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. has received €937 million in EU funding from the CEF Connecting Europe Facility for modernisation work on the sections: Będzin - Katowice Szopienice Płd. - Katowice - Katowice Piotrowice and Tychy - Goczałkowice-Zdrój.

The result of the investment will be better rail access and shorter journey times. Thanks to the separation of agglomeration and long-distance traffic, more trains will be able to get on the tracks.

The task 'Works on basic passenger lines (E30 and E65) in the area of Silesia, Stage I: line E65 in the section Będzin - Katowice - Tychy - Czechowice-Dziedzice - Zebrzydowice' was submitted in the competition for co-financing by the European Union from the CEF 'Connecting Europe' instrument. Projects on the sections: Będzin - Katowice Szopienice Płd., Katowice Szopienice Płd. - Katowice Piotrowice and Tychy - Goczałkowice Zdrój received funding amounting to 85% of the value of the tasks - i.e. a total of EUR 937 million.

The effect of the investment by PKP Polskie Linii Kolejowe S.A. will be better rail travel in the conurbation, thanks to a more favorable transport offer for the inhabitants of the Silesian Voivodeship. Access to an environmentally friendly mode of transport - rail - will be improved thanks to the construction of new stops. Train speeds will increase to 160 km/h. Journey times will be reduced. The separation of agglomeration and long-distance traffic will allow more trains to run. The safety of passenger and freight transport will be improved.
